The classification is determined by what the system does β specifically, whether its data or outputs influence quality-affecting decisions β not by where it physically resides or who owns it. An MES (Manufacturing Execution System) controlling batch manufacturing is a GxP system. A visitor management kiosk in the facility lobby is not, even though both operate within the same facility perimeter.
